Ed's Running the 2020          London Marathon

on Sunday 26th April                                                                                 "Life's either a daring adventure or nothing at all"

So at least I'll give it a GO

I'll be dragging my 70-year-old body around the London Marathon on Sunday, 26 April 2020 to raise funds for Brain Research UK and my target is £3,000.

The brain is infinitely complex and I'm asking for your help to fund research into neurological conditions which affect over 12.5 million people in the UK, today. Our emotions, senses and actions are all controlled by the brain. It is how we process the world around us and when it breaks down, we break down!

What drives me to run for Brain Research UK is that my own dearest wife, Sophie, suffered TBI as a result of a hit and run incident many years ago when she was just 17 years old. She lay in a coma for 6 weeks but recovered though she spent the next two years in a wheelchair and had lost both the power of speech and mobility. She also required personal care for a few more years. Thankfully, she has made a massive recovery.

Brain Research UK focusses upon:

Acquired Brain and Spinal Cord Injury

There are over 50,000 people in the UK living with the long term effects of traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury as well as hundreds of thousands more living with the effects of non-traumatic injuries such as stroke and despite long term rehabilitation, many people do not regain full function. Do you know somebody like that? Our research is to advance understanding of how to repair the brain and spinal cord.

Brain Tumours

Brain tumours kill more under 40-year-olds than any other cancer. 11,000 people every year are diagnosed with a brain tumour and 5,000 of them lose their lives. There are at least 130 different types of brain tumour presenting different symptoms and their diagnosis and treatment are extremely difficult. We need to fund research to understand tumour development and to develop the treatment.
